When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

Vivid ruby-red. Lively raspberry and baking spice aromas are complemented by suggestions of tea rose and vanilla. Spicy and energetic in the mouth, presenting juicy red fruit and spicecake flavors that spread out slowly through the midpalate. Shows appealing sweetness on the long, floral-tinged finish, which is framed by smooth, well-judged tannins. 35% new French oak.
WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/1/2021
This is a strong showing for a large production Pinot Noir. Mesquite-smoked cherry and light cola aromas on the nose cruise into a spicy palate of root beer and cinnamon that surrounds a cherry compote core.
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 30, 2021
Concentrated dark fruit and berry flavors are backed by medium-grained tannins and fresh acidity, with loamy and minerally accents on the ripe finish. Drink now through 2024. 28,000 cases made.

The 2019 Pinot Noir The North Slope Vineyard offers lovely mid-palate depth to play off strong floral, savory notes. I find the North Slope a bit uncharacteristic in its vegetal character, which I suspect is related to machine harvesting for some of this fruit.

RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2021
Medium ruby-purple colored, the 2019 Pinot Noir Napa sings of Bing cherries, raspberry leaves and cranberries with hints of rhubarb and damp soil. Medium-bodied and lively in the mouth, it offers plenty of crunchy red berries flavors and a soft texture, going lifted on the finish. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)

Brilliant red. High-pitched, spice-accented raspberry and cherry aromas, along with hints of woodsmoke, cola and exotic spices. Silky and energetic on the palate, offering alluringly sweet red fruit and floral pastille flavors that deepen and turn spicier as the wine opens up. Fine-grained tannins lend shape to an impressively long, spice-tinged finish that shows excellent clarity and reverberating florality. (Josh Raynolds)
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2022
Strong smoke aromas surround the black-cherry, loamy soil, crushed granite and iodine elements on the nose of this bottling. Mesquite- and oak-smoked fruit and meat flavors show powerfully on the sip, which is quite savory. (Matt Kettmann)
