Roasted red-cherry aromas are cut by singed sagebrush on the nose of this bottling. There’s a dusty, earthy core to the palate, where the crisp red fruits are lean and fresh.
VN8989 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2020
The 2018 Pinot Noir (Santa Barbara County) is a delicious wine that shows how compelling this vintage is. Sweet red cherry, mint and rose petal are beautifully lifted. The 2018 is vibrant, detailed and enticing.

JD9797 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 8/4/2020
The 2018 Pinot Noir Machado is pure class, showing beautiful purity of fruit as well as classic Sta. Rita Hills complexity and spice. Lots of raspberry, strawberry, spring flowers, forest floor, spice, and just a touch of seaside-like iodine all emerge from the glass. It’s a wonderfully complete, balanced, seamless 2018 that does everything right. (Jeb Dunnuck)
WE9696 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/1/2020
Joyous and aromatically arresting scents of creamy black cherry, black raspberry, licorice and black cardamom grab hold of the nose and don’t waver on this bottling. Deep and dark fruit flavors mix with hints of dank herb, tarragon and even cannabis on the palate, where the acidity is penetrating and persistent. (Matt Kettmann)
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2020
The 2018 Pinot Noir Machado has a medium ruby color and deep, layered aromas of pure violet, garrigue, laurel, aniseed and forest floor, seamlessly accenting a core of black and red berries. The palate is medium-bodied with loads of lift and silkiness, elegantly fruited and with a long, ethereal finish. 675 cases produced. (Erin Brooks)
SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2020
Complex, with lithe minerality and rich savoriness to the concentrated raspberry, red plum and currant flavors, backed by crunchy acidity. Delicate and well-spiced on the pure-tasting finish. Drink now through 2026. 676 cases made. (Kim Marcus)
WS9393 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 04/21
From a 15-acre parcel of rolling hills north of Highway 246, this wine is ripe but manages to channel the appellation’s coolness to remain lively and playful. It leads with scents of red berry, black tea and licorice, then the flavors are a burst of red fruits, becoming livelier with air, a juicy exuberance grounded by spicy stem tannin and mouthwatering acidity. Showing beautifully now, this is ready to pour with a pork chop.
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2020
A powerful, intense wine, the 2018 Pinot Noir Machado has a lot of depth, but it is also not ready to show all its cards yet. Potent tannins wrap around a core of dark fruit, leather, menthol and tobacco. The Machado is a wine of real substance, but it will be a few years before the 2018 is at its most expressive and rewarding to drink. (Antonio Galloni)

Crushed stone, lit gunpowder, peppery herbs, sassafras, violets, and assorted red and black fruits all emerge from the 2018 Pinot Noir Estate, a brilliant release from this estate that’s medium-bodied, has bright yet integrated acidity, beautiful balance, and a great, great finish. It’s young and unevolved (yet it’s already complex) and will benefit from 2–4 years of bottle age, but this is a gorgeous California Pinot Noir on every level. It’s going to drink well for over two decades. (Jeb Dunnuck)

The 2018 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido has a bigger core of dark fruit as well as lots of briny minerality, peppery herbs, and forest floor aromatics. Fermented with 35% stems and aged in just 30% new French oak, it just about screams Bien Nacido and is a great example of this vineyard. With plenty of structure, good acidity, and a great finish, it’s going to hit prime time with 3–4 years of bottle age and evolve for over a decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2020
The 2018 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard opens with a burst of sweet red cherry fruit. Mountain flower, sweet spice, star anise and cinnamon add striking layers as the 2018 opens up in the glass. More than anything else, the Bien Nacido is a supreme example of Gavin Chanin at his best.
WS9393 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 10/20
This tiny-production pinot is briary and pretty, with aromas of smoke, sea wrack and wild strawberry. The fruit elements€ — strawberry and raspberry — are concentrated and framed in fine tannins; for game.

From a site farmed by the Martinelli family to the producer’s specifications, this white is quenching in a depth of acidity, with cool-climate freshness throughout. Gravenstein apple, clove, Meyer lemon and nutmeg provide a lush richness that finishes elegantly balanced.
JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - May 21, 2020
Seeing 20 months in 20% new barrels, the 2017 Chardonnay Woolsey Road Vineyard offers plenty of brioche and white flower nuances to go with rocking levels of Meyer lemon and tart pineapple fruit. It’s rich, concentrated, and powerful on the palate, yet also has a racy spine of acidity that just about hits the tart level, yet never goes over the edge. This rocking Russian River Valley Chardonnay is going to benefit from 2–3 years of bottle age and keep for over a decade. It’s beautiful but needs short-term cellaring. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Apr 2020
The 2017 Chardonnay Woolsey Road Vineyard is a racy wine endowed with terrific richness. Lemon confit, white flowers, mint and tropical overtones all grace this unctuous, deeply layered Chardonnay. The balance of textural intensity and freshness is simply compelling. The 2017 is so expressive today.
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Aug 31, 2020
Taut, with focused green apple, Asian pear and honeydew melon flavors, backed by vibrant acidity. Savory midpalate, leading to a finish filled with lemon meringue notes and minerally richness. Best from 2022 through 2026. 769 cases made.
RP93+93+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Jul 2020
The 2017 Chardonnay Woolsey Road Vineyard is savory and earthy with notes of roasted almonds, graphite, mushroom powder and a hint of honeycomb. The medium to full-bodied palate’s expansive, silky character is contrasted by tangy acidity and rocky minerality, finishing very long and pure. It will benefit from another two to three years in bottle. 769 cases produced.

Wonderful butter and toasted oak aromas start this full-bodied wine off nicely, before vivid Pippin apples, lemon zest and pineapples kick up the palate. It shows a vibrancy and balance that are appetizing and bode well for further aging. Best through 2030. (Jim Gordon)
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2023
Delivers lime zest, white peach and Asian pear flavors that are focused, fresh and crisp, with dried ginger, yuzu and Fuji apple accents. Shows good concentration, with plenty of elegance on the long, expressive finish. Drink now through 2033. 2,520 cases made. (MaryAnn Worobiec)

WE9696 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/1/2022
This is a compelling coastal varietal wine, inviting on the nose in forest pine, white pepper and subtle red fruit. Cofermented with 14% Viognier, the grapes were grown at Cole Creek and Rodgers Creek vineyards. The silky, supple texture shows the potential to age. Enjoy best from 2029–2039. (Virginie Boone)
RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Jun 2023
Co-fermented with 13% Viognier, the 2019 Syrah Sonoma Coast has intense aromas of red and black currants, game meats, green olive and coffee beans plus a waft of eucalyptus. The medium-bodied palate is approachable and nuanced with grainy tannins and seamless freshness as it moves through the mouth, and it has a long, juicy finish. It’s very easy to drink and will pair widely at the table. (Erin Brooks)
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Aug 31, 2023
A handsome red, showing a refined pedigree and elegant red currant and raspberry flavors highlighted by savory pepper and a whiff of garrigue. Finishes with fine-grained tannins. Drink now through 2030. 900 cases made. (Tim Fish)

This is a great appellation wine blended with small amounts of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Cedar, char and celery salt accent tight, refined tannins that grip the palate with intense flavor and texture. Black currant, crushed rock and a hint of toasted oak also contribute. RP97+97+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Dec 2014
As usual, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Pedregal Vineyard is a great wine (a 650-case blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Petit Verdot). This sexy, full-throttle, opaque purple-colored 2012 boasts fabulous concentration along with copious notes of pen ink, blueberries, blackberries, and hints of graphite and espresso bean. Deep, full-bodied and multidimensional, this sensational Cabernet should drink well for 20–25 years.
SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2015
This features a deep, exotic streak of melted black licorice amid layers of blackberry and wild berry, supported by firm, fine-grained tannins and hints of espresso and graphite. Most impressive on the long, sustained finish that keeps repeating the core flavor themes. Drink now through 2028. 650 cases made.
