Roar Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir 2021 / 750 ml.

Item#: 43699

WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 9/1/2023
This appellation blend is just as hedonistically delicious as many of the Franscioni family’s single-vineyard bottlings. Round aromas of black cherry, French toast spice and loamy earth lead from the nose into a boldly ripe palate of berry pie flavors. A shale-like minerality forms a rocky tension that keeps it all in balance. (Matt Kettmann)
SP8989 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 12, 2023
Juicy, showing nice tension to the mix of red cherry and bitter plum fruit flavors, while warm stone, sweet tobacco and savory hints dart in on the finish. Drink now through 2025. 1,840 cases made. (James Molesworth)

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

This Pinot Noir shows integration of a variety of flavors and aromas that create a unique expression. Find notes of red cherry, cranberry, black tea, fresh and dried roses, basil, tarragon, toasted wood, and a desert-dust earthiness. The finish is pleasantly warm. (Stacy Briscoe)

The 2021 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast is floral with perfume and ripe red berries, as well as notes of framboise, rosemary, and incense. Offering fantastic balance, with fine tannins, fresh seamless acidity, and a good purity of fruit, this is a very attractive wine now and will continue to provide prime drinking over the next 12 or more years. (Audrey Frick)
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Jun 2023
The 2021 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast was matured in 39% new oak for 15 months. The nose opens slowly from allspice and brown sugar to a core of red cherry and cranberry, tea leaves and lavender. The medium-bodied palate offers surprisingly concentrated fruit supported by grainy tannins and seamless freshness, and it has a long, spicy finish. (Erin Brooks)
SP8989 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 26, 2023
Ripe and friendly, with a tasty mix of gently mulled cherry and raspberry notes mixed with subtle red tea, singed sandalwood and a twinge of savory. Drink now through 2025. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 7,775 cases made. (James Molesworth)

Melville Pinot Noir Estate 2021 / 750 ml.

2021 / 750 ml.

Item #: 50258

RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 8th Dec 2022
Medium ruby, the 2021 Pinot Noir Estate has alluring aromas of cranberry and orange jelly, forest floor and Angostura bitters. Medium-bodied, it floods the mouth with waves of juicy berry fruit supported by fine, chalky tannins, and it finishes long and layered. This was vinified using about 40% whole clusters. 7,824 cases produced. (Erin Brooks)
JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, May 9, 2023
A racy and fine red with dried strawberry and citrus with a smoky undertone and hints of cedar. Some smoke and rose stems. Medium-bodied with crunchy and bright fruit. Fine and delicate tannins. Energetic finish. Spices at the end. White pepper. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)
JD9393 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 2/4/2023
The 2021 Pinot Noir Estate Sta. Rita Hills shows the more classic style of this estate today and is unquestionably a qualitative match for a top Premier Cru from Burgundy, albeit at about a fraction of the cost. Translucent ruby, with a gorgeous nose of peppery red and black cherry fruits as well as spring flowers, baking spices, and subtle briny, marine-like nuances, it hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, an elegant, lively mouthfeel, supple tannins, and perfectly integrated acidity. It will evolve gracefully for 8-10 years, if not longer. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Lovely energy to this with lavender and rose petal with strawberries and raspberries. Slate and stone undertones. Minerality. Seaweed. Medium- to full-bodied with creamy tannins. Fine texture. Fresh at the end. Tension in the finish. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)
WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 7/1/2023
A rich mouthfeel and well-ripened fruit flavors give this full-bodied wine a friendly, generous expression, while modest tannins add a touch of grip to balance things out. Accented with an array of oak spices, the wine is easy to love. (Jim Gordon)
SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Aug 7, 2023

Ripe and joyous dark cherry and berry pie aromas leap from the nose of this bottling, but it’s the earthy veil of loam, dust and chaparral spice that provides particular depth. The texture is firm and the energy is bright on the palate, where a refreshing acidity drives through black cherry compote, sumac and mace flavors. (Matt Kettmann)
JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 9/21/2023
The 2021 Pinot Noir Garys’ Vineyard has a semi-opaque ruby hue (as do all of these 2021s from Roar) to go with medium to full-bodied aromas and flavors of redcurrant, black raspberry, and mulberry-like fruit as well as lots of classic Pinot Noir black tea, underbrush, and spicy aromatics. This beauty has the most opulence and exuberance of all the Pinot Noirs on the palate and has a great mid-palate, lots of fruit and texture, and a great finish. It’s the most classically California-styled 2021 in the lineup and is going to put a smile on your face any time over the coming 5–7 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 30, 2023
Ripe, fresh and expressive, with tasty raspberry, plum and cherry notes infused with mulling spice, tobacco and savory hints. Juicy, focused finish. Drink now through 2027. 625 cases made. (James Molesworth)
