Item#: 21631

JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, October 5, 2021
A fresh and crisp, dry Sicilian red, showing bright cherries and a twist of licorice with some well-crafted tannins on the medium-bodied palate. Long, clean finish with plenty of drive. Drink or hold.
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2021
This lithe, silky red is light- to medium-bodied, with pretty sandalwood and violet accents to the pure cherry and raspberry fruit flavors, followed by hints of loamy earth and light herbs on the finish. Nero d’Avola and Frappato. Drink now through 2024. 6,650 cases made, 1,419 cases imported.
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jun 2021
Take your time with the 2019 Cerasuolo di Vittoria. It sits in the glass and slowly reveals a captivating bouquet of rubbed sage, black currants and crushed stone, all offset by a beguiling hint of grilled pineapple. It’s silky and textural while displaying outstanding purity, with tart woodland berries and minerals cascading across a core of vibrant acidity. Energy remains high, even as hints of grippy tannin tug at the cheeks, adding tension and framing the experience nicely. This is a blend of 60% Nero d’Avola and 40% Frappato. (Eric Guido)
RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 18th Nov 2021
A blend of 60% Nero d’Avola and 40% Frappato, the Planeta 2019 Cerasuolo di Vittoria is a mid-weight red with a bright and punchy bouquet. The nose is redolent of wild cherry and plum, and there is a hint of red rose. A lean and silky finish culminates with a pretty point of fresh acidity. There are light notes of toasted herb and licorice as well. Some 85,000 bottles were made. This would be nice with a typical Sicilian “melanzane mbuttunate,” or eggplant stuffed with caciocavallo cheese.

The 2019 Rosso pulls you close with its display of exotic spice, dusty dried roses, currants and blackberries. This is silky-smooth in texture, with ripe dark fruits and cooling herbal notes carried on a wave of vibrant acidity. Though fruit-forward, it maintains wonderful balance throughout, finishing long and spicy yet also quite fresh. This blend of 80% Nero d’Avola and 20% Syrah aims to please.

Planeta Santa Cecilia 2018 / 750 ml.

2018 / 750 ml.

Item #: 53945

VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jun 2022
Brooding in the glass, the 2018 Santa Cecilia takes its time to develop its hauntingly alluring bouquet. Swirling unlocks depths of plum sauce and sage mixed with enriching notes of brown spice and, finally, a lifting hint of camphor. It boasts medium-bodied weight and the silkiest of textures, nearly glycerol in feel, as waves of ripe red and black fruits are offset by a twang of sour citrus that rings like a dinner bell amongst this sea of dark depths. Sweet tannins linger through the finale, leaving a classically dry nut only lightly structured sensation, as hints of licorice and inner rose fade. The 2018 Santa Cecilia, a varietal Nero d’Avola from Noto, is a huge success from a difficult vintage. Sometimes I struggle with a score for a wine that is atypical of the vintage, but plainly stated, the 2018 is a showstopper. (Eric Guido)

RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Oct 2021
Here’s a cheerful wine to love and enjoy. The 2019 Etna Bianco presents a zesty range of Carricante-specific aromas that start off with tropical fruits and peachy sweetness and then veer toward crushed stone and mineral. This is a lean-bodied white with plenty of refreshing acidity and crispness. This bottle is a joy to drink, preferably with some stuffed clams. Some 70,000 bottles were made. (Monica Larner)

The 2022 Rosé is spicy, blending crushed stone with a grapefruit and young kiwi spritz. This is round and silky in feel, gaining a more tactile edge as saline minerals settle in. The 2022 finishes incredibly fresh, leaving behind tropical melon and a gentle tug of sour citrus tension. (Eric Guido)

A lush white, revealing rich hints of beeswax, butterscotch and chopped nuts that accent baked pear, pineapple and persimmon fruit flavors.
