Planeta Cerasuolo di Vittoria 2021 / 750 ml.

Item#: 21631

JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, August 17, 2022
Black cherry and sliced blood-orange aromas. Medium to full body, orange-peel undertones and a juicy finish. Clean, focused and real. Delicious all round. From organically grown grapes. Drink now. (James Suckling)
VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2023
The 2021 Cerasuolo di Vittoria wafts up, more savory than sweet, with smokey earth tones and crushed rocks giving way to black raspberry. This washes across the palate with mineral-tinged red and blue berry fruits complicated by inner herbal tones. Brisk acidity maintains energy throughout as the 2021 tapers off with a salty flourish, leaving licorice and spice hints to linger. (Eric Guido)

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.

Pretty plum and raspberry fruit flavors are accented by a fine, aromatic thread of dried thyme, smoky mineral and rosehip in this harmonious, light- to medium-bodied red. Drink now through 2024. 2,080 cases made, 105 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jun 2021
As if you can smell the ashen volcanic soils that these vines grow in, the 2018 Nerello Mascalese Eruzione 1614 wafts up smoky and musky, with a complement of cherry and dried strawberry that fully completes the experience. This is soft and fleshy in feel, boasting a noticeable inner sweetness nicely balanced by brisk acids and pretty inner florals. The 2018 lacks the persistence and structure to promote long-term cellaring, but makes up for it with sheer drinkability. (Eric Guido)

A lush white, revealing rich hints of beeswax, butterscotch and chopped nuts that accent baked pear, pineapple and persimmon fruit flavors. Fresh and focused, thanks to a firm, well-knit backbone of citrusy acidity, which also drives the long, creamy finish. Fiano. Drink now through 2030. 4,450 cases made, 360 cases imported. The 2022 Rosé is spicy, blending crushed stone with a grapefruit and young kiwi spritz. This is round and silky in feel, gaining a more tactile edge as saline minerals settle in. The 2022 finishes incredibly fresh, leaving behind tropical melon and a gentle tug of sour citrus tension. (Eric Guido)

Planeta Santa Cecilia 2018 / 750 ml.

2018 / 750 ml.

Item #: 53945

VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jun 2022
Brooding in the glass, the 2018 Santa Cecilia takes its time to develop its hauntingly alluring bouquet. Swirling unlocks depths of plum sauce and sage mixed with enriching notes of brown spice and, finally, a lifting hint of camphor. It boasts medium-bodied weight and the silkiest of textures, nearly glycerol in feel, as waves of ripe red and black fruits are offset by a twang of sour citrus that rings like a dinner bell amongst this sea of dark depths. Sweet tannins linger through the finale, leaving a classically dry nut only lightly structured sensation, as hints of licorice and inner rose fade. The 2018 Santa Cecilia, a varietal Nero d’Avola from Noto, is a huge success from a difficult vintage. Sometimes I struggle with a score for a wine that is atypical of the vintage, but plainly stated, the 2018 is a showstopper. (Eric Guido)

Fresh, loamy earth and sun-dried cherry and raspberry fruit flavors ride the silky palate of this focused, medium- to full-bodied red. Fresh acidity and an iron-laced streak of mineral provide focus and drive through the lightly chewy finish of herbs and spice. Nero d'Avola. Drink now through 2028. 3,650 cases made, 190 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)
