Shop for Chianti and other Sangiovese Wines

Sangiovese, alongside Nebbiolo, is one of the quintessential Italian wine grapes. The primary grape used in Chianti, Sangiovese is also blended with Cabernet Sauvignon to create the inimitable Super Tuscan wines that are so revered in wine circles. Additionally, wine lovers also know Sangiovese as the main grape in Italy's phenomenal Brunello de Montalcino wines, some of the best in the world. Italians owe a lot to the Sangiovese grape; wine enthusiasts do, too!

Pair a Sangiovese grape wine with rare steaks, flavorful chicken dishes, or pasta with red sauce. You won't be disappointed!

And, of course, you'll find the best Sangiovese wines right here at WineTransit.com

    VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2019
The 2016 Primamateria, the estate’s Sangiovese/Merlot blend, is another exceptional wine in this range. Raspberry jam, spice, new leather, dried flowers and mocha lend striking aromatic nuance. The 2016 is sleek, ripe and exceptionally polished, not to mention flat out delicious.
    SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2019
This is pure, but also velvety and vibrant, featuring cherry, black currant, tar, stony and iron notes. Firm and dense on the finish, with a juicy finish. Drink now through 2028. 3,400 cases made, 1,100 cases imported.

  11. Mocali Brunello di Montalcino

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#53881

    SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2021
Complex aromas of cherry, mint, camphor, leather, vetiver, iron and cigar box draw you in, while the flavors repeat these themes. Firmly structured, with a dense matrix of tannins and lively acidity for support. Best from 2025 through 2050. 4,166 cases made, 1,350 cases imported.
    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2020
The Mocali 2016 Brunello di Montalcino offers good value in a great vintage. I don’t think you’ll find this level of Brunello quality at this price from any other producer in the appellation. This expression shows soft and dark fruit with plum, black cherry, balsam herb and dried lavender flower. The vines are harvested from a site with Galestro and gravel soils, and you get plenty of Sangiovese purity in this wine.
    VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2020
The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is a pretty and fruit-forward expression of the vintage. Ripe strawberry and cherry waft up from the glass, complemented by notes of mint and a hint of pine. It’s soft and focused on purity with a charming inner sweetness, cooling acids and minerals. Although nuanced and feminine, and finishing quite fresh, there’s still enough underlying tannin to carry the 2016 Mocali through medium-term cellaring.

A juicy, savory red, offering dried berries, some figs and vanilla. New wood is showing a lot now with some balsamic undertones. It’s full-bodied with round tannins and a delicious finish. Give it time to come together. Better in 2021.

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#51546

    WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2022
Made with organically farmed grapes—90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo and 5% Colorino—this opens with aromas of black-skinned berry, underbrush and leather. The fragrant, balanced palate offers black cherry, clove and licorice alongside firm, polished tannins. Drink 2023–2030. (Kerin O’Keefe)
    JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 4, 2021
A well-defined and typical Chianti Rufina with aromas and flavors of berries and cherries, as well as darker, savory notes of bark and dried herbs. Medium body and grainy tannins that have a dusty-oak coating that absorbs the fruit flavors nicely and gives a long, firm and a slightly bitter, licoricy finish. From organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but will be better integrated in 2023.
