Castello di Bossi Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2019 / 750 ml.

Item#: 60779

SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2023
There’s purity to the cherry, strawberry, rose, mineral and herb aromas and flavors in this solidly built red, which shows excellent balance and length. The muscular finish begs for more time for the beautiful fruit to assimilate. Best from 2025 through 2042. 1,700 cases made, 800 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

Lots of blackberry, black-cherry and lavender aromas with some sage. Medium to full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Linear and polished red. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)

You drive through a postcard-perfect panorama of cypress-lined roads and sun-lit farmhouses as you approach the tiny hamlet of Bossi on the southern side of the appellation. The organic Castello di Bossi 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione reveals a dark core of black fruit that is surrounded by flinty mineral, spice and black licorice. This wine should become even silkier and softer with more bottle age. This 20,000-bottle release will hit the market this fall. (Monica Larner)
VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2023
The 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Bossi is laced with dark red cherry, incense, tobacco, game, spice and licorice. Dense and a bit wild, the 2019 has plenty of personality. This really needs quite a bit of air to emerge, but there is plenty of stuffing there. (Antonio Galloni)

Where It's From

Region / Tuscany

View more wines from Tuscany

There are few regions as picturesque as Italy's Tuscany. And there are few regions that produce finer wines, either. Tuscany is home to legendary wine regions Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti, among others, where the red wine grape Sangiovese is king. It's also home to "Super Tuscans," a category of Tuscan wines that don't officially fall within the Italian wine classification system.

Country / Italy

View more wines from Italy

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.

The fruit is on the darker side for the vintage, evoking black cherry, blackberry and dark plum flavors, while earth and wild herb accents add detail. Tightly knit tannins quickly intervene, leaving a compact, powdery feel on the finish. Best from 2027 through 2043. 16,000 cases made, 3,000 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

The 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino has a ruby/orange color and lifts with a citrus-tinged profile of dried orange peel, preserved cranberries, dusty earth, and sweet Mediterranean herbs. This continues to the palate with elegant structure in its fine tannins, an even spine of acidity, and notes of citrus peel and dried apricot on the finish. This is a very pretty style that will be best enjoyed over the next 10 years. 200,000 bottles produced. (Audrey Frick)
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Dec 2023
The Camigliano 2019 Brunello di Montalcino offers a combination of dark fruit, ripe blackberry and toasted cardamom or cumin seed from 24 months of aging in large oak casks. This organic wine shows lots of rich concentration and oak-driven intensity that fits within the context of classic Brunello. Ultimately, the wine mirrors a warm growing area with a mix of clay, sand and rocky soils. It delivers easy texture on the mid-palate with chalky tannins. This is a big release of 190,000 bottles. (Monica Larner)

Lots of dried fruit, such as of figs, dried plums and savory herbs, followed by lingering dried-meat and sweet-and-sour undertones. Medium-bodied with polished tannins. A slightly nutty aftertaste. From organically grown grapes. Drink now or hold. (James Suckling)

Rosy florals and crushed stone give way to bright cherry and hints of animal musk as the 2019 Rosso di Montalcino unfolds in the glass. There’s so much depth of primary fruit, nearly velvety in texture, yet perfectly lifted by bright acidity, turning quite perfumed toward the close. Notions of black raspberry preserves and spice linger unbelievably long, as this tapers off with incredible freshness. This is a killer Rosso from Livio Sassetti. (Eric Guido)

A layered and juicy red with currant, cedar and some walnut character. It’s full and savory with lovely fruit and real Chianti Classico character in the undertones of mushrooms and bark. From organically grown grapes. Drink now. (James Suckling)
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2023
Broad and fleshy, with a solid structure supporting the cherry, loam, leather, iron and tobacco flavors, this red has power. Reveals dense, dry tannins that flex their muscles on the finish. Best from 2025 through 2033. 37,000 cases made, 9,000 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

Black cherries, figs, tar and a final herbaceous element that moves from sage to eucalyptus on the nose develop into a palate of more cherries with the essence of orange peel, with an overall buoyancy provided by easygoing tannins and a streak of acidity. (Danielle Callegari)
