Cortonesi Leonus 2021 / 750 ml.

Item#: 60099

JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, August 8, 2021
Attractive nose of hazelnuts, praline, cherries, peaches and vanilla. Medium-bodied with creamy tannins and a supple, juicy palate. Drink now or hold. (James Suckling)
RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 9th Mar 2023
The Cortonesi 2021 Lèonus opens to a medium-dark appearance and punchy aromas of candied cherry, iris, earth and cola. The fruit feels very fresh and primary and even a touch raw. The wine is lean and simple in terms of mouthfeel, with balanced acidity. It would make a great partner to a cheesy Margherita pizza. Some 20,000 bottles were produced. (Monica Larner)

Where It's From

Region / Tuscany

View more wines from Tuscany

There are few regions as picturesque as Italy's Tuscany. And there are few regions that produce finer wines, either. Tuscany is home to legendary wine regions Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti, among others, where the red wine grape Sangiovese is king. It's also home to "Super Tuscans," a category of Tuscan wines that don't officially fall within the Italian wine classification system.

Country / Italy

View more wines from Italy

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.

The 2021 Chianti Classico is bright, floral and fruity, all of which lend tons of immediacy. Crushed flowers, cedar, tobacco and mint play off a core of vibrant Sangiovese fruit in this charming, mid-weight offering from San Felice. (Antonio Galloni)

A firm and fresh red with berries, cherries and hints of sandalwood that follow through to a medium body, fine tannins and hints of bark and mushroom at the end. Very well done and very Tuscan. Mostly sangiovese with some cabernet sauvignon and merlot. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)
