Region / Tuscany

View more wines from Tuscany

There are few regions as picturesque as Italy's Tuscany. And there are few regions that produce finer wines, either. Tuscany is home to legendary wine regions Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti, among others, where the red wine grape Sangiovese is king. It's also home to "Super Tuscans," a category of Tuscan wines that don't officially fall within the Italian wine classification system.

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.

This savory young red showcases ripe black cherry and black plum flavors while flashes of spice and earthy truffle tones lend depth. It’s full-bodied, with taut, close-grained tannins that lend a firm structure. Drink through 2026. (Kerin O’Keefe)
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2022
The 2020 Rosso di Montalcino is spicy, perfumed with dusty rose, dried strawberries and hints of camphor. It’s much more energetic than anticipated on the palate, as juicy acidity and vibrant red berry fruits are complemented by a sweet herbal twang. The 2020 finishes classically dry and poised, with the slightest hint of licorice that lingers. This is without a doubt one of the more pretty and balanced Rossos of this opulent vintage. Ripe berry, violet and baking spice aromas emerge from the glass along with a whiff of mint. Elegant and savory, the bright, polished palate features juicy red cherry, raspberry compote and star anise accompanied by taut, refined tannins and tangy acidity. It has great youthful tension and can be enjoyed now or over the next several years. Drink through 2028. (Kerin O’Keefe)

Blackberries and black cherries with some fresh flowers on the nose, following through to a medium body, fine tannins and a fresh finish. Succulent at the end. Drink now. (James Suckling)
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022
The 2020 Chianti Clássico Bastioni dei Collazzi is a soft, fruity wine to drink now and over the next few years, while the red cherry/plum fruit remains vibrant. (Antonio Galloni)
RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 9th Feb 2023
Opening to a dark garnet color, the hot-vintage 2020 Chianti Classico Bastioni dei Collazzi is earthy and savory on first nose with dried rose, forest floor, toasted chestnut husk and sweet tobacco. However, you might also notice dried flower potpourri or church incense. The wine is thick on the palate but ultimately moderate in length. The blend is 80% Sangiovese, 18% Merlot and 2% Malvasia Nera, and 40,000 bottles were made. (Monica Larner)
