Felsina Berardenga Chianti Classico 2019 / 750 ml.

Item#: 39814

RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 7th Oct 2021
One of the best vantage points for drinking Chianti Classico is at the entry level. A wine like the Fèlsina 2019 Chianti Classico Berardenga offers so much freshness and cheerful, easy-drinking appeal. It’s a terrific partner to pizza, pasta or basically anything on the trattoria menu tonight. This wine shows bright cherry flavors and redcurrant with pressed flowers and some tangy blood orange. It is steady and generous, with lots of bright primary intensity. (Monica Larner)
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2021
This is lively, its cherry, strawberry and orange peel flavors picking up earth and woodsy accents. Firm tannins sweep in on the finish, yet this stays fresh and long. A touch more austere than many ’19s. Drink now through 2024. 23,333 cases made. (Bruce Sanderson)

Where It's From

Region / Tuscany

View more wines from Tuscany

There are few regions as picturesque as Italy's Tuscany. And there are few regions that produce finer wines, either. Tuscany is home to legendary wine regions Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti, among others, where the red wine grape Sangiovese is king. It's also home to "Super Tuscans," a category of Tuscan wines that don't officially fall within the Italian wine classification system.

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.

The 2019 Chianti Colli Fiorentini is a bold, juicy wine. Succulent red cherry, plum, spice and tobacco race across the palate as this fleshy, inky Chianti shows off its considerable charms. The 2019 is not super complex, but it is immediate, bold and undeniably delicious. (Antonio Galloni)

Aromas of ripe dark-skinned berries, new leather and underbrush lift out of the glass. On the easygoing, enjoyable palate, lithe tannins and fresh acidity accompany dried cherry, white pepper and a hint of star anise. (Kerin O’Keefe)

This wine always stands out in my mind, and it’s worth dedicating a few words as to why. Poggio Valente offers us a rare opportunity to taste Sangiovese made according to the highest standards but from a territory — on the Tuscan Coast — that does not share a big legacy with monovarietal Sangiovese reds. The Fattoria le Pupille 2019 Poggio Valente was born in a happy vintage with a cool spring and a growing season that had plenty of underground water reserves to keep the vines hydrated well until the end of August. This is a full and generous wine with dark cherry and wild plum aromas that segue to tar, licorice and crushed slate. My sample (tasted a few weeks after bottling) was a little shy initially, but it quickly blossomed in the glass.
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022
The 2019 Poggio Valente is gorgeous. Bright and vibrant in the glass with terrific energy, the Poggio Valente is a fine example of the style favored here these days. Dark red/purplish fruit, rose petal, spice and orange zest complement a core of Sangiovese fruit. I especially like the vibrancy here. The 2019 is absolutely delicious. That’s all there is to it.

JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, July 4, 2022
A floral and bright red with brambleberry character. Cedar, too. Medium body with very fine tannins that are polished and beautiful. Long and refined. So delicious. A complete and balanced Tuscan red. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, sangiovese, syrah and petit verdot. Drink now.
VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022
The 2019 Villa Antinori is plump, juicy and super-expressive. Black cherry, plum, mocha, new leather, licorice and spice are all dialed up in this delicious, succulent red from Antinori. The Villa Antinori is a blend taken from the Antinori family’s many properties across Tuscany. (Antonio Galloni)
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 30, 2022
Gains intensity from the cherry and blackberry flavors, which are augmented by earth, tobacco and menthol accents. The solid structure lends support and a vibrant feel. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Best from 2023 through 2029. 80,000 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

Antinori Tignanello 2019 / 1.5 L.

2019 / 1.5 L.

Item #: 43235

SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2022
A supple, elegant red highlighted by bright cherry, black currant, violet, tobacco, iron and oak spice aromas and flavors. Though fluid and seemingly approachable now, this is well-structured and shows the balance to age. Fine length. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2025 through 2042. 25,800 cases made, 5,000 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Jun 2022
The Marchesi Antinori 2019 Tignanello was born in a classic growing season that saw some cooling summer rains and relatively stress-free conditions. This is an elegant and extremely polished wine made with mostly Sangiovese and smaller parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Here too, the small blending element of Cabernet Franc has been slowly increasing in recent years. The 2019 vintage was born with a good amount of power and tannic structure, and maceration times were slightly reduced as a result. This less extractive approach shapes a polished and elegant wine with plenty of bright berry fruit, cherry, dried mint, blue flower, blood orange and rusty earth. The palate is more compact and streamlined. It shows beautiful grace. After this, the next vintage to watch is the highly anticipated 2021. (Monica Larner)
VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022
The 2019 Tlgnanello is one of the most reserved, understated young wines I can remember tasting here. In so many vintages Tigrarello is quite showy, but in 2019 the nervous energy and brightness of Sangiovese takes center stage. That’s intriguing, because the 2019 blend has a bit more Cabernet Sauvignon than normal, a decision made to compensate for some of the lighter qualities in the Sangiovese. With air the 2019 shows gorgeous depth and captivating inner perfume, even if it is clearly still coming together. The 2019 spent about 14 months in oak, with 50% new wood. Things are always in constant evolution at Artinori. This is the first vintage to incorporate some larger 500L barrels, an approach I think will work brilliantly. (Antonio Galloni)
JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, July 4, 2022
Extremely perfumed and vivid, with fresh mushrooms, cherry stones and blackberries. Medium-bodied with very fine tannins that are long and complete. Fresh acidity. Tangy and vibrant. Lovely is the word. Drink or hold.

The 2016 Primamateria, the estate’s Sangiovese/Merlot blend, is another exceptional wine in this range. Raspberry jam, spice, new leather, dried flowers and mocha lend striking aromatic nuance. The 2016 is sleek, ripe and exceptionally polished, not to mention flat out delicious.

Felsina Fontalloro 2017 / 750 ml.

2017 / 750 ml.

VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2020
Fontalloro is exquisite in 2017. It is also such a contrast to the Rancia, as the two wines could not possibly be more different. Fontalloro is bright and vibrant, with more sweet red Sangiovese character than the darker Rancia. It is also incredibly delicious now, even though it clearly has the energy to age for many years. The 2017 is one of the finest Fontalloros I can remember tasting.

The 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia is incredibly polished and sophisticated. Silky tannins give the 2017 its racy, sleek personality. Over the last year, the 2017 has really settled into a gorgeous place. There is plenty of vintage 2017 intensity, but Rancia is distinctly medium in body and restrained. The wilder side of Sangiovese, one of the signatures of Rancia and Fèlsina more broadly, tastes a bit baked out. I can’t wait to see how the 2017 develops over the coming years and decades.
RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 6th Aug 2020
Rancia is always one of my favorite wines from this storied appellation (and the Castelnuovo Berardenga subzone). This vintage threw quite a few challenges at the winemaking team, but the Fèlsina 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia emerges intact, intense and beautiful. It is virtually unscathed by the heat and drought that marked this growing season. In fact, that brilliant radiance, linearity and energy of the Sangiovese grape comes through loud and clear. The bouquet is redolent of red fruit, wild berry, toasted almond, violet and potting soil. My score is a little lower (compared to past vintages) in terms of mouthfeel because I found this edition to be a bit shorter and less impactful on the finish, but not by much. It ages in barrique for up to 20 months. This vintage of Rancia saw 46,000 bottles released.
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2020
Cherry, plum, juniper, earth and chocolate flavors highlight this sleek, intense red. There is depth and length here, along with a solid structure, yet this will require time to unravel and reveal all its facets. Best from 2022 through 2036. 3,300 cases made, 2,000 cases imported.

VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2020
The 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva is a total knock-out. Sumptuous and enveloping, but with plenty of structure to support it all, the 2017 captures all the best elements of the house style. Succulent black cherry, worn-in leather, smoke, licorice and espresso all build in the glass as the 2017 shows off its curves. More than anything else, the 2017 is a wine of tremendous pleasure.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 6th Aug 2020
The Fèlsina 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Berardenga (with 70,000 bottles made) is a rich and sultry expression of pure Sangiovese with dark fruit intensity and a beautiful contouring of spice, leather and tar. This wine hits the intensity nail on the head without the overt over-ripeness that we saw in many of its peers from this hot and dry vintage. I would not recommend an especially long drinking window, but I can enthusiastically recommend this authentic taste of Chianti Classico for near or medium-term drinking. The Riserva ages in large Slavonian oak casks for 12 months.
