Giacomo Mori Chianti 2020 / 750 ml.

Item#: 57544

VN8989 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022
The 2020 Chianti offers up crushed red/purplish berry fruit, spice, mint and dried flowers. Soft and fruity, it offers good purity, but also comes across as a bit light. In 2020, the Mori Chianti is attractive, but not quite the overachiever it can be. (Antonio Galloni)

Where It's From

Region / Tuscany

View more wines from Tuscany

There are few regions as picturesque as Italy's Tuscany. And there are few regions that produce finer wines, either. Tuscany is home to legendary wine regions Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti, among others, where the red wine grape Sangiovese is king. It's also home to "Super Tuscans," a category of Tuscan wines that don't officially fall within the Italian wine classification system.

Country / Italy

View more wines from Italy

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.

Attractive aromas of ripe cherries, dried strawberries, dried orange peel, spices and crushed stones, following through to a medium to full body with compact tannins that are firm and finely grained. Smooth and textured with vivid fruit underneath and a lingering finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)

In the bottle with the black label, the organic 2020 Chianti Classico Riserva offers ripe fruit with measured intensity that never feels heavy or overdone. Achieving this level of balance is not easy in a hot growing season such as this. This wine is characterized by an especially linear and direct personality that pushes it over the palate with good momentum. An ambitious 60,000 bottles were released. (Monica Larner)

The 2020 Chianti Classico is ripe with juicy red and black berry fruit, offering notes of candied black raspberry, crushed violet, and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied and savory, with tart black cherry, orange oil, fine tannins, and dusty earth, it has a driving persistent energy through the mid-palate and is harmonious in its balance between its more youthful primary fruit and light savory touch throughout. Drink 2023–2033. (Audrey Frick)

The 2020 Chianti Classico is striking. Bright, punchy and vibrant, the 2020 possesses terrific energy from start to finish. Sweet red-fleshed fruit, cedar, blood orange, spice and incense are front and center. The 2020 screams with character. Once again, Marco Ricasoli-Firidolfi has crafted an exceptional Chianti Classico that punches well above its weight. (Antonio Galloni)

Bright and floral on the nose with orange blossom to the vivid sliced cherry character. Medium body, with ultra-fine tannins that are supple and caressing. Gorgeous cooked peach pie and cherry aftertaste. Delicious to taste now, but better in 2028. (James Suckling)
RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 21st Sep 2023
One of the estate’s most important and successful bottles, the Barone Ricasoli 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Brolio is plump and rich with warm-vintage layers of blackberry, juicy cherry, spice and soft earth. It ages in tonneaux for 22 months, of which only 30% is new oak, yet that is more than enough to impart savory tones, soft tannins and rich textural support to this full-bodied Sangiovese. Production is 33,000 bottles. (Monica Larner)

This vivid red delivers telltale Sangiovese notes of iron, sanguine and tobacco that seep into a core of cherry and raspberry. Turns sleeker and more focused on the finish, where the fruit, mineral and savory elements converge. Best from 2025 through 2042. 2,750 cases made, 400 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

A soft and caressing red with a full body and plush, finely woven tannins. Plenty of dark cherry, mulberry, chocolate and some bark. Citrus zest and dried flowers, too. Lightly chewy at the end. 95% sangiovese and 5% merlot. Try in 2025.

A firm red, featuring cherry and blackberry flavors, with mineral and tobacco accents. Shows depth and balance, with a solid layer of tannins lining the finish. Sangiovese and Merlot. Drink now through 2025. 12,500 cases made, 4,000 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

This has a toasty character with hints of cardamom, cloves and crushed walnuts with ripe red fruit, plum skins and red flowers in the background. It’s full-bodied with firm, chalky tannins and steady acidity to give it freshness. A little bit of toasted oak at the end. Lengthy and spiced with a crunchy finish. Better after 2025.
