From the Producer

We affectionately call this wine “Tamer” because blending Lion Tamer is both challenging and rewarding especially when you start with Malbec as the core. Malbec on its own brings heady, floral aromas of violets and can be what I call the wild child. Big, bold and juicy upon entry, Malbec is virtually loaded with flavor. When you layer in Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon, you get complex layers of blackberries, milk chocolate, black plums and exotic perfume that carry throughout a plush texture and a ripe juicy core of black fruits. The signature of Lion Tamer is a generous palate of black raspberry and surprisingly lush tannins.

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

Lush and deeply fruity, with crushed plum, mulled blackberry and açaí berry compote flavors that meld nicely together, while melted black licorice, black tea and mulling spice notes add range and detail. Features a lushness that makes this approachable now, but shows a strong underlying iron spine that will let this evolve with cellaring. Best from 2023 through 2036. 4,464 cases made.

This is an approachable, likable and hearty red, blending mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with Petite Sirah, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot. A spicy rich berry nose leads to plush, soft and toasted notes of oak that will widely appeal. (Virginie Boone)

This Cabernet Sauvignon adds a bit of Petite Sirah and Malbec to the mix. The result is an overall well-balanced red that offers approachable layers of complexity. Find notes of black currant, black plum, boysenberry jam, clove, nutmeg, coriander, black licorice and just a hint of barnyard. (Stacy Briscoe)
