When it comes to wine, no other grape can challenge Zinfandel for the title of "America's Grape." That's not to say it's the most planted or popular wine grape in the United States, but it's just about the only grape that American's can claim for themselves. And Zinfandel is a versatile grape at that.

Largely popularized by the explosion of White Zinfandel (a blush wine) onto the wine scene in the 1980's, Zinfandel is also used to make bold-flavored red wines that pair perfectly with another American pastime, barbecue. Nearly all Zinfandel wines come from California, including the best white zinfandel wines in the world.

    2014 / 750 ml. | Item#52078

    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Feb 2017
Deep garnet in color, the 2014 Zinfandel Fighting Brothers offers an abundance of black fruit preserves and blueberry pie notes plus underlying spice cake, incense and chocolate box hints. The richly fruited, full-bodied palate is packed with dried berries and spice layers, framed by velvety tannins and much needed freshness, which contributes a lively lift to the weighty finish.

  13. Ridge Three Valleys

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#22453

    SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2021
An engaging blend, well-knit and distinctive for its savory raspberry and cherry flavors that draw in bay leaf, Asian spice and smoked pepper notes. Tannins are ripe and briary. Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Carignane and Mataro. Drink now through 2029. 40,000 cases made.
    JD9292 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 1/27/2021
Checking in as a blend of 73% Zinfandel, 13% Petite Sirah, 10% Carignan, and the rest Mataro and Alicante Bouschet, the 2019 Three Valleys has a juicy blackberry, mulberry, orange blossom, violet, and flowery incense-driven bouquet. This gives way to a medium-bodied wine with a soft, elegant texture, sweet tannins, and just an undeniably delicious, gulpable, balanced style that’s impossible to resist. It’s well worth seeking out and ideal for enjoying over the coming 5–7 years.
    WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2021
Although quite firm with tannins, this full-bodied blend of traditional California grape varieties fills out its structure nicely with ripe blackberry and black-pepper flavors. Based on Zinfandel, it’s a robust wine that will make a great pairing with grilled meats and the like. Best from 2023.

  15. Marietta Román

    Estate Grown Zinfandel
    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#45077

    VN90+90–92 pts. - Vinous - Apr 2020
The 2018 Román is bright, punchy and full of Zinfandel character. Dark red and purplish fruit, spice and mint all race out of the glass effortlessly. Dollops of Petite Sirah and Barbera bring added complexity to the field blend. The 2018 is one of the best wines readers will find for the money. Quite simply, it is a screaming value.
    JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - May 21, 2020
The 2018 Zinfandel Roman checks in as 92% Zinfandel, 4% Petite Sirah, and the rest Barbara that spent 10 months in neutral barrel. Spiced red plums, sandalwood, cedary herbs, and candied orange blossom notes all emerge from the glass, and it’s medium-bodied, with a straight, focused texture, beautiful balance, and a clean finish. It’s a charming, delicious red.
