When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

Fresh and clean aromas of white-flower blossoms, lime juice and citrus peel show on the nose of this bottling. Broad melon and pome-fruit flavors show on the palate, which is quite salty as well.

Not Shippable. WNY Local Delivery and In-Store Pickup only. Learn More Sorry, this item is not available for shipment outside of the Western New York area. Either the bottle is too large for our packaging (i.e. we cannot ship anything larger than 750 ml), the dimensions/shape of the bottle doesn't fit within our packaging for safe shipment, or this is a widely-distributed wine (e.g. Barefoot, Yellow Tail, etc) which we only sell at our physical store or for in-store pickup.

JD9393 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 8/2/2022
The 2020 Zinfandel Papera Ranch is ripe with fresh berries, raspberry preserve, and baking spice. Its gushy fruit up front gives way to a note of raspberry seed and refreshing lift on the finish. Drink 2023–2032. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2020 Zinfandel Papera Ranch is a charming, seductive wine. All the elements are so nicely balanced. Succulent red/purplish fruit, mint, blood orange, sage and rose petal lend quite a bit of immediacy, while silky tannins wrap it all together in style. The 2020 is an unusually restrained Papera, but its balance is beyond reproach. A few hours of aeration are hugely beneficial. (Antonio Galloni)

A plethora of aromas waft out of the glass, suggesting raspberry, strawberry, red plum, red roses and violets, along with deeper notes of cacao, toasted wood and forest floor. The palate confirms these flavors and brings fine-grained tannins that add a delicate backbone. Acidity injects a dose of freshness and uplifts those lively red fruits. (Stacy Briscoe)

Mulberries, cooked plums, stewed strawberries and cinnamon stick on the nose. Fruity and full-bodied with stemmy tannins. Ripe while retaining tangy zesty elements and spicy complexity. Drink now. (James Suckling)

A solid Zinfandel expression that’s sure to please lovers of big, bold reds. Find notes of blackberry and blueberry jam, black plum compote, black-cherry pie filling, vanilla, nutmeg and cacao all wrapped in a cologne-like aroma. Mouth-coating tannins are soft, plush and fairly well balanced by acidity. (Stacy Briscoe)

Roasted red-plum, fig-jam and black-pepper aromas show on the classical nose of this reliable bottling. The wine lands with a bit more heft on the palate, hitting quick with tannins before the fresh blackberry-jam, anise and chiseled rock flavors arise. (Matt Kettmann)
