Haskell Anvil

2012 / 750 ml.

Item #: 41271

RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2014
The 2012 Anvil Chardonnay is 100% Chardonnay, whole-berry pressed and raised in 228-liter French oak barrels. The nose is open and inviting with subtle brioche and hazelnut scents infusing the citrus fruit that is well-defined. The palate is well-balanced, quite understated on the entry, with precise acidity and a conservative, easy-going honeycomb-tinged finish that just slips down the throat without making too much fuss. Very fine.

VN9393 pts. - Vinous - May 2017
Bright medium yellow. Ripe, sexy scents of stone and citrus fruits, clove, nutmeg, butterscotch and minerals. Then wonderfully intense but a bit youthfully closed in on itself, with its very fresh fruit flavors firmed by penetrating acidity and underlying salty minerality. Savory, extract-rich and light on its feet, with a very long, building, slightly phenolic finish calling for a year or two of patience. At once elegant and solid, this Chardonnay has the inner-mouth tension to uncoil slowly and should age very well. Held up very well in the recorked bottle, maintaining its energy and tight-grained texture and showing riper soft citrus flavors.
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Apr 2017
The 2015 Family Vineyards Chardonnay comes from iron-rich clayey soils populated by 12 to 15-year-old vines, aged in barriques with 25% new oak. It has a more extroverted bouquet compared to the Southend Chardonnay, with hints of melted butter infusing the citrus fruit, also with peach skin and sea spray aromas. The palate is very well balanced with a smooth entry. There are veins of tropical fruit such as guava and melon, a fine line of acidity and a very seductive and composed finish. This is a very worthy follow-up to the excellent 2014 and comes highly recommended.

RP90+90+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 9th Jun 2022
Perhaps one of the most floral vintages that I’ve seen in a while, the 2020 Chocolate Block is a blend of 73% Syrah, 11% Grenache, 8% Cinsault, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Viognier. The nose is robust, juicy and expressive with hints of bramble, red and black spice and elegant purple flowers. Medium to full-bodied, the mouthfeel displays a balanced structure with focused tannins and lifting acidity that frames the mid-palate. Then wine finishes with a delightfully lingering, fruit-forward essence with a kiss of tar, roses and baked rocks. This will have no challenges making it until its 10th birthday. 2,982 barrels were produced. Give it a try.
VN8989 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2021
The 2020 The Chocolate Block has a clean, well-defined bouquet of red plum and black currant, plus touches of tangerine in the background. The palate is medium-bodied, plush and generous, with supple tannins and a very smooth, espresso-tinged finish. It’s no wonder The Chocolate Block has such wide appeal across the world.

Uva Mira The Dance Cabernet Franc

2016 / 750 ml.

Item #: 51017

RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2019
The 2016 The Dance Cabernet Franc has a perfumed nose with light red fruit tones, moving to subtle red pepper with smoky oak aromas layered in toward the back. The palate is still rigid, and the red fruits turn more tart across the mid-palate. Creeping tannins rise up on the finish, which will mellow with a few years of aging. The structure is solid and the wine will drink better in coming years.
