Champagne Palmer & Co. Rose Solera NV / 750 ml.

Item#: 60098

RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Sep 2021
A new cuvée from Palmer & Co is the NV Brut Rosé Solera, a lovely effort that includes some 8% Pinot Noir from a perpetual reserve. Pale in hue, it wafts from the glass with attractive and already complex aromas of fresh bread, red berries, spices, dried citrus peel and orange. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, with a nicely concentrated core of fruit, racy acids and a fine mousse, concluding with a saline finish. (William Kelley)
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2022
Dry and satiny on the palate, this offers up-front notes of white raspberry, delicate herbs, fleur de sel and orange peel that are more subtle through to the finish. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Drink now. 80,000 cases made, 1,150 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)

Where It's From

Region / Champagne

Bring on the bubbly! Perhaps no other wine region in the world has the name recognition of Champagne, to the point where people often mistakenly use the word "Champagne" to describe any sparkling wine. Yet only wines produced within the region can legally be called "Champagne," and to this day it produces some of the finest sparkling wines known to earth.

Country / France

View more wines from France

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

Hints of ripe peach, passion fruit and juicy acidity are carried on a tightly knit, satiny mousse in this firm rosé, layered with spiced plum, dried cherry, smoke and star anise notes. Try this with charcuterie. Drink now through 2018.
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 31, 2012
A smoky, fresh rosé, lightly chalky in texture, showing delicate flavors of crème de cassis, gumdrop, grilled plum and ground spice. Minerally finish. Drink now through 2018.
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2020
Fresh and balanced, with a pretty range of wild strawberry, orange blossom, whole-grain toast and ground ginger flavors riding the silky mousse. Drink now through 2023.
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2022
A lacy rosé Champagne backed by bright acidity, this offers notes of strawberry preserves, pastry cream, toasted brioche, orange blossoms and smoke set on a fine, zesty bead. Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. Drink now. (Alison Napjus)
WS9090 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 2009
A light, copper-colored rosé, this basks in light, sweet red fruit and flowers. It’s soft, but keeps its sweetness in check, ending with cedary finesse. For seafood sausage.
WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/15/2003
At first blush, the bouquet is rich and impenetrable, but when it opens citrus comes on strong. Chewy apple fruit with some Pinot heft define the palate, while licorice and anise add character to the finish. Plump, round and a pleasure to drink. Very substantive.

Ayala Brut Nature NV / 750 ml.

NV / 750 ml.

Item #: 34709

WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 6/1/2014
Ayala specializes in dry Champagnes and this is their extreme example. It has the right amount of bottle age to soften the intense acidity and bring in some toastiness and fruit. It can be drunk now, but a few more months in bottle would make it even better.
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2014
A well-cut, mouthwatering version, with a fine bead and a rich hint of toasted raisin bread layered with flavors of white cherry, dried apricot and candied lemon zest. Drink now through 2019. 4,000 cases made.
ST9090 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Nov/Dec 2011
Pale gold. Musky citrus pith and pear skin aromas are complicated by sweet butter, cherry pit and dried flowers. Rich and creamy on entry, then very firm and dry in the mid-palate, offering tangy lemon curd and orange zest flavors and subtle chalkiness. Finishes firm and long, repeating the citrus zest note.

JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 4/9/2020
Another outstanding effort from this estate is the NV Brut Reserve. Lightly hued with a crisp bouquet of crushed citrus, golden apples, and toasted brioche, it has medium-bodied richness, crisp acids, a great mousse, and shows a clean, precise vibe on the finish. It brings serious acidity yet still stays nicely balanced. It’s going to evolve for a solid decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Sep 2021
The latest rendition of Palmer’s NV Brut Réserve is quite reserved out of the gates, unwinding with notes of crisp orchard fruit, citrus zest and fresh bread. Medium to full-bodied, taut and tangy, with bracing acids and a pinpoint mousse, it’s not quite as generous as its immediate predecessors have been.

WS9494 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 12/19
Palmer focuses its vintage wine on parcels in the premier and grand cru villages of the Montagne de Reims — the villages where the original founding growers were based. And this wine shows the concentration and supple ripeness of the 2012 harvest. All the fruit sweetness and acidity is integrated into a high-wire act of chalk-dusted tension, lasting on scents of Meyer lemon zest, spicy cider apple and undertones of earthy complexity. It feels complete and well suited to long aging.
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 17th Sep 2020
Disgorged in May 2018 with eight grams per liter dosage, Palmer’s newly released 2012 Brut Vintage is showing very well indeed, offering up a deep bouquet of peach, yellow orchard fruit, buttered toast and iodine. Full-bodied, fleshy and vinous, it’s a rich and muscular wine, reflecting the concentrated vintage, with racy acids and a classy pinpoint mousse.
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2019
This expressive Champagne is laced with exotic notes of fresh ginger, jasmine and lime blossom, with a toasty edge of grilled nut to the black cherry and nectarine fruit flavors. Firm and well-knit, offering a lingering finish. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Drink now through 2034. 42 cases imported.
