G.H. Mumm Grand Cordon Rose NV / 750 ml.

Item#: 42400

SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2009
Open and airy in texture, this rosé offers graphite, cherry, ginger and mineral flavors. Almost creamy in texture and vinous, with a long, fruit-stained aftertaste. Drink now through 2011.
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/9/2005
Rich and smoky, with a powerful blast of dustiness. Nectarine flavors carry the long, fresh palate to a clean, fruit-forward finish. Shows a tiny burnt, rustic character and isn’t overly lively in terms of bead. Good for drinking this year and next.
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 31, 2006
An elegant style, evoking cherry, rosemary and mineral flavors matched to an assertive structure. Creamy and luxuriant, with an expansive finish. Drink now through 2009.
SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2008
A fruity version, featuring cherry, berry and a touch of orange peel. Lively and light-bodied, with balance and a crisp finish. Drink now.
WE8888 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/11/2004
Straawberry, toast and dark chocolate scents lead the way. The flavors begin with berries, then get darker and toastier on the midpalate before ending with a refreshing blast of citrus. A very good rosé that should be easy to find.

Where It's From

Region / Champagne

Bring on the bubbly! Perhaps no other wine region in the world has the name recognition of Champagne, to the point where people often mistakenly use the word "Champagne" to describe any sparkling wine. Yet only wines produced within the region can legally be called "Champagne," and to this day it produces some of the finest sparkling wines known to earth.

Country / France

View more wines from France

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

A reserve-wine blend that delivers a complex and savory style with a wealth of pastry, brioche and smoothly arranged citrus fruit. Fresh and dry. This is still fruit-focused but super crisp. Blend of 1988, 1996, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010. Drink now.
WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2019
A new approach for this producer, this Champagne is almost dry and has also had six years’ aging before release. The result is a taut, nervy and well-structured wine that is wonderfully crisp. Great acidity and citrus flavors add to the effect. Drink now.
WS9292 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 2019
Dominique Demarville created this blend from Clicquot’s collection of reserve wines; this first release blends wines from 1988, 1996, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010. The older wines give it shadings of toasted wheat and oxidative yeasty autolysis while the freshness of the younger vintages brings briskness to its almond and hazelnut flavors. It’s chalky, naked and clean. (Disgorged 6/17)
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2019
A mouthwatering version, with a delicate bead and a minerally streak of chalk and saline accents underscoring the poached pear, chopped hazelnut and black currant notes. Disgorged June 2017. Drink now through 2022.

Dosnon Recolte Noire Brut NV / 750 ml.

NV / 750 ml.

Item #: 55660

SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2015
Vivid flavors of ground spice and graphite are layered with hints of crunchy pear, crushed white raspberry fruit, lemon zest, spun honey and chamomile in this mouthwatering Champagne, which is refined, chalky in texture and harmonious, with a long, lingering finish of rich grilled nut, coffee and spice. Disgorged May 2014. Drink now through 2020. 250 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Aug 2018
Dosed with five grams per liter in November 2017, Dosnon’s NV Recolte Noire (Black Label) is a pure, oak-fermented Pinot Noir from the Côte des Bar. White-golden in color, this is a fine, fresh and delicately fruity Champagne with just a hint of oak. Intense, fresh and lush on the palate, this is a straight, perfectly round and well-structured Blanc de Noirs with good grip and vitality on the finish. Excellent! Tasted July 2018.

A rich, toasty Champagne, backed by vibrant acidity and showing lovely balance. The finely textured mousse carries a range of cherry, candied ginger, toasted brioche, chalk and blood orange granita flavors. Disgorged October 2017. Drink now through 2021. 2,833 cases imported.
WS9292 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 2018
A blend of equal parts pinot meunier and chardonnay, with 20 percent pinot noir, this plays meunier’s rich and heady orange-blossom and strawberry notes off the crushed limestone severity of Côte des Blancs chardonnay. And yet the two merge harmoniously into a platinum-clear Champagne, hinting at fresh pear skin layered over meatier fruit. It’s a great buy at $38.

WS9494 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 12/21
Based on the 2017 vintage, this blend includes 30 percent from a perpetual reserve established in 2005. It’s focused on David Pehu’s parcels in Verzenay, Verzy and Sillery, weighted toward pinot noir (70 percent), and it is red fruit thats pours out of the glass. Powerfully structured as a young wine, with a hint of vanilla bean (20 percent of the base wines were vinified in oak), this is more accessible a day after the cork is popped: The mineral acidity turns frisky, the layered intensity of cèpes and chalk mellows toward generosity.
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2022
Packs a fragrant skein of violet, star anise and graphite that winds through macerated cherry and strawberry fruit, raw almond and crystallized honey. Finely meshed and satiny in texture, this is softly juicy and fresh throughout. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Disgorged January 2022. Drink now. 75 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2020
The NV Brut Face Nord is a gorgeous, expressive wine. For the Face Nord David Pehu blends 70% Pinot and 30% Chardonnay from Verzey and Verzy, both of which yield nervy, racy wines. The inclusion of 30% perpetual reserve back to 2005 helps fill out the layers while adding notable complexity. Cherry, Mirabelle plum, spice and exotic white flowers give the Face Nord striking aromatic complexity and a touch of exoticism that are so alluring. Disgorged: November 1, 2019.

VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2019
David Pehu’s NV Brut Face Nord is surprisingly open for a Champagne made from vineyards in Verzenay and Verzy, where the wines tend to be more steely and taut. Spice, dried flowers and red Pinot fruit build in a soft, caressing Champagne that can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring. Time in the glass brings out attractive freshness, lift and energy. This is a terrific introduction to David Pehu’s range. Even with the blocked malolactic fermentation, this is a pretty supple and inviting Champagne. The interplay of fruit richness and vibrancy is compelling. Disgorged: March 2018.
RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2021
Disgorged in November 2019, the latest release of Pehu-Simonet’s NV Brut Grand Cru Face Nord is showing nicely, offering up aromas of white flowers and walnuts mingled with hints of orange oil and crisp yellow apple. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and incisive, with racy acids and chalky grip, it will unwind further with a little time on cork.
WS8888 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 2015
This is 70 percent pinot noir from Verzenay and Verzy, the balance chardonnay from Verzenay. It’s chalky and has not begun to evolve, showing some toasted almond notes through a smooth texture, pithy and firm. Give this a year in bottle to develop.

A minerally version with a lively bead, this features flavors of preserved lemon, charred toast, poached apricot and lemon thyme. Juicy, spiced finish. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Drink now. 20,000 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2015
Flavors of poached pear, candied lemon zest and biscuit, with a rich hint of roasted almond, ride the lively bead of this crisp, minerally Champagne. Drink now through 2018. 15,000 cases imported.
WE8989 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2007
This must be one of the most familiar nonvintage Champagnes, so it’s good to be able to report that it is much improved. The dosage has been lowered, and there is considerable freshness, crispness with apple and toast. It is full-bodied but well balanced.
WE8989 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2020
This most familiar of nonvintage Champagnes has been improving each year. While it retains enough dosage to be easily drinkable, its acidity and crisp texture allied to the citrus element make for a sophisticated, attractive wine. Drink this bottling now.
ST8888 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Nov/Dec 2006
Light gold. Buttered apple and pear aromas, with hints of anise and brioche. Medium in weight, with a silky texture and sweet orchard fruit flavors framed by gentle acidity. Broad and rich on the finish, with a lingering note of sweet butter.
