VN8989 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2019
This release of the Selection des Belles Années, based on 2013, is brisk and expressive, with an alluring combination of energy and richness. In the glass, the Belles Années is a touch compact, but a bit of bottle age should help. Wonderfully persistent and inviting, the Belles Années has so much to offer. This release is 80% 2013 Gastronome, with 20% reserve wines. Dosage is 5.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: July 19, 2018.

Where It's From

Region / Champagne

Bring on the bubbly! Perhaps no other wine region in the world has the name recognition of Champagne, to the point where people often mistakenly use the word "Champagne" to describe any sparkling wine. Yet only wines produced within the region can legally be called "Champagne," and to this day it produces some of the finest sparkling wines known to earth.

Country / France

View more wines from France

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

Another outstanding effort from this estate is the NV Brut Reserve. Lightly hued with a crisp bouquet of crushed citrus, golden apples, and toasted brioche, it has medium-bodied richness, crisp acids, a great mousse, and shows a clean, precise vibe on the finish. It brings serious acidity yet still stays nicely balanced. It’s going to evolve for a solid decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Sep 2021
The latest rendition of Palmer’s NV Brut Réserve is quite reserved out of the gates, unwinding with notes of crisp orchard fruit, citrus zest and fresh bread. Medium to full-bodied, taut and tangy, with bracing acids and a pinpoint mousse, it’s not quite as generous as its immediate predecessors have been.

A lithe, elegant rose, with a rich hint of brioche underscoring flavors of white peach, pink grapefruit pith, spring blossom and ground ginger as they ride the finely detailed mousse. A racy spine of acidity drives this through to the minerally finish. Disgorged September 2019. Drink now through 2023. 6,000 cases made, 4,068 cases imported.
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2019
Crunchy white peach and cherry fruit flavors are enriched by hints of grilled nut, lemon pith and fresh thyme in this firm and focused rosé Champagne, with a fine, raw silk–like mousse. Disgorged October 2018. Drink now through 2023. 1,000 cases made.
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2016
Lightly juicy and chalky in texture, this offers tightly meshed flavors of white cherry, grated ginger, biscuit, and strawberry. Firm but balanced, with a zesty, spicy finish. Drink now through 2019. 1,438 cases made.
VN8888 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2016
Ployez-Jacquemart’s NV Extra Brut Rosé is soft, open-knit and gracious, all qualities that make it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next few years. Cranberry, mint and sweet floral notes add lift. This is a decidedly supple, inviting Rosé with quite a bit of immediate appeal.

JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, September 2, 2019
A light, bright and lithe Champagne that has plenty of bright, toasty aromas with grapefruit and spiced lemon-biscuit notes. The palate is rich, smoothly fleshy and has attractive build and deep, lemon and grilled-nectarine flavors. Drink now.
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2021
This wine balances a soft texture with its dosage and the apple freshness of Chardonnay. The wine has youth and vigor while also hinting at mineral maturity. Drink now.

SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2018
Fresh, with focus and intensity, this nonetheless elegant Champagne is finely knit and minerally, offering flavors of crunchy white peach, toast and lemon curd, accented by aromatic hints of cherry blossom, fresh tarragon and spice that linger on the creamy finish. Drink now through 2022.
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2022
This graceful blanc de blancs is light on its feet and bright on the palate, yet the creamy mousse carries a concentrated range of honeyed apricot, Meyer lemon peel, white blossoms and almond pastry. Reveals hints of chalk, smoke and spices on the finish. Drink now. (Alison Napjus)
WS9292 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 2013
If chardonnay could be a red wine, it might have the red fruit flavors of this blanc de blancs. Perhaps it’s the floral aspects that turn its chamomile and yellow flower notes toward violets, or the deep earth tones adding color to the flavor. The fruit is persistent, sunny in the middle, then shaded by an almost tannic character to the lees that places the wine with food, particularly roast veal.
WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 6/1/2017
Crisp with a delicious line of acidity and ripe with apple and lemon flavors, this wine balances freshness with hints of maturity from aging in Ruinart’s subterranean cellars. It’s both taut with the tension of cool-climate Chardonnay and showing signs of toastiness.
RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2011
This is a fabulous version of Ruinart’s NV Brut Blanc de Blancs. The wine seems fresher, more vibrant and less obviously sweet than in the past, all of which makes this a far more interesting wine. The trademark profile of lemon, jasmine and green apples is very much in the forefront while the wine’s textural finesse and length are both first-class. This release of the NV Brut makes a great introduction to the wines of Ruinart, Champagne’s oldest house. This is Lot LAGJSAF. Anticipated maturity: 2011–2014.

A well-balanced Champagne, with a vibrant backbone of acidity and a creamy mousse, this offers spice and tea rose accents to the crushed white cherry, toasty and candied lemon zest flavors. Clean-cut finish. Disgorged October 2017. Drink now through 2020. 2,500 cases made.
ST9090 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Nov/Dec 2011
Light, bright yellow. Pear, peach and smoky lees on the nose, with complicating notes of anise and iodine. A spicy, gently chewy midweight offering zesty citrus and orchard fruit flavors and a touch of honeysuckle. Shows very good energy and definition on the finish, with the smoke and anise notes echoing.
RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Dec 2009
The NV Brut is straightforward and accessible, with lovely depth in its fruit. The wine’s balance and length are both commendable, and the toasty, creamy finish rounds things out nicely. Anticipated maturity: 2009–2012.
VN8989 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2015
Pale gold. Ripe nectarine and yellow plum on the fragrant nose, with a subtle undercurrent of smoky lees. Round and fleshy on the palate, offering spicy orchard and pit fruit flavors, gentle acidity and a hint of sweet butter. In an easygoing, accessible style, finishing with good breadth and cling.
