When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

JD9696 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 7/22/2021
Another Russian River release, the 2019 Chardonnay Four Hearts Vineyard brings plenty of ripe tropical fruit as well as medium to full body, a supple, layered mouthfeel, nicely integrated acidity, and building spice, toast, and green almond nuances. It’s another thrilling, brilliant Chardonnay from this estate. Drink bottles over the coming 5–7 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 9/1/2021
Lushly tropical with a richness of crème brûlée, this wine is made from several sites in the Laguna Ridge neighborhood of the appellation. Generous oak supports the layering opulence and spiciness, offering a voluptuous expression of the grape.
RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jan 2021
The 2019 Chardonnay Four Hearts Vineyard was 100% barrel fermented in French oak barrels, 31% new, and aged for 9.5 months. It strides confidently out of the glass with bold, ripe pear and peach notes, plus wafts of pineapple, wet clay, honey toast and fennel seed and a touch of nutmeg. Medium-bodied, the palate is refreshing with a slight phenolic grip to the texture and a long, steely finish. 1,485 cases were made.
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
The 2019 Chardonnay Four Hearts is another terrific wine in this range. Creamy and layered in the glass, the 2019 is exquisite. Old vines confer a good deal of character and nuance. White flowers, lemon confit, pineapple and pastry build into the creamy, inviting close.
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 31, 2021
Well-structured, with rich acidity to the fresh-cut apple and Asian pear flavors that show savory richness. Sage cream accents fill the contoured finish. Drink now through 2026. 1,485 cases made.

Item #: 32166

JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, April 6, 2021
Beautiful, dense Chardonnay with phenolic tension and layers of fruit. Full-bodied with lots of complexity, pretty intensity and tightness at the end. Dried pineapple and hints of tropical fruit and praline. Made from Howell Mountain, Carneros and Napa City. Drink or hold.
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
The 2019 Chardonnay is a very pretty wine. Apricot, tangerine peel, white flowers, mint and a touch of new oak are all finely knit in this attractive, mid-weight Chardonnay from vineyards in Carneros, southern Napa Valley and Howell Mountain. Partially blocked malolactic fermentation keeps the flavors vibrant in this attractive, appealing Chardonnay from Freemark Abbey.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jan 2021
The 2019 Chardonnay underwent 50% malolactic and spent nine months in oak barrels, 40% new. It opens with expressive poached pears and apple pie scents plus nuances of powdered ginger, honey toast and mandarin peel. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers mouth-coating spiced-apple flavors with a racy line and great length. 4,400 cases were made.
