When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jan 2021
The 2018 Chardonnay Stone Côte was 100% barrel fermented in French oak barrels, 32% new, and aged for 15 months. It offers a very pretty perfume of honeysuckle, mandarin peel, candied ginger and lemongrass with a core of white peaches, pears and grapefruit. Medium-bodied, elegantly styled and with great freshness, it finishes long and mineral laced. 350 cases were made.
WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/1/2021
Floral, with edgy acidity, this white is made from a block within the Durell Vineyard that is rocky. The rock shows through on the palate, adding texture and complexity to the highlights of apple skin, pear, stone fruit and oak, the finish loaded in spice.
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
The 2018 Chardonnay Stone Côte Vineyard is a very pretty, airy wine that captures the more finessed side of Durrell, one of the most highly regarded sites in Carneros. Lemon peel, mint, white pepper and strong mineral accents give this lifted Chardonnay tons of character. This is an especially restrained style for the Stone Côte, a blend taken from four blocks at Durrell.

From grapes grown between 400 and 1,800-feet elevation, this impressive white overdelivers on its price point, showcasing the beauty of the site. Graham cracker, honeycomb and stone fruit contribute to a rich midpalate of complex concentration and length, finishing balanced and bright in underlying acidity.
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
The 2018 Chardonnay Estate is a blend of various blocks on the estate. Not surprisingly, it is a beautifully balanced, harmonious wine. Lemon confit, sage, mint, white flowers and tangerine oil all meld together in the glass. The Estate captures all the natural breadth and texture of this site, but in a smaller-scaled style vis-a-vis the single block bottlings.

An abundance of ripe stone and tropical fruit on the nose. It’s full-bodied with aromas and flavors of mango, yellow peach, salted butter and powdered praline. Lightly smoky with a crisp finish. Drink or hold.

JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - August 4, 2020
Brought up in 20% new French oak, the 2018 Chardonnay Los Alamos reveals a light gold hue as well as a beautiful bouquet of stone fruits, toasted bread, almond paste, and honeysuckle. Beautifully textured, medium to full-bodied, and seamless on the palate, it’s a gorgeous Chardonnay as well as a brilliant value! (Jeb Dunnuck)
WS9494 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 10/20
Tasting Gavin Chanin’s majestic chardonnay bottling from Los Alamos is like standing on a hilltop in that vineyard and letting the sea spray imperceptibly coat your lips. Beneath the cinnamon spice and the citrus brightness is a kind of bracing, briny green sensation, reminding one taster of agretti, the salty springtime green that finds its way into Italian salads. The wine is bracing and delicious, with the structure to age ten years or more.
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2020
The 2018 Chardonnay Los Alamos Vineyard is a very pretty, airy wine. Candied lemon peel, almond paste and chamomile are all laced together. Tangerine oil and tropical accents add an exotic flair as this mid-weight Chardonnay opens nicely in the glass.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Grown is a firm, classically built wine that is going to need a few years to come into its own. There is admirable depth as well as character. Red cherry/plum fruit, spice, tobacco and mocha lend quite a bit of aromatic nuance to this mid-weight, super-expressive Cabernet from Frog’s Leap. (Antonio Galloni)
JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, December 5, 2021
Perfumed nose of dried flowers, cassis, baked blueberries and chocolate orange with a touch of cinnamon. It’s full-bodied with fine-grained tannins and bright acidity. Vibrant and zesty cabernet. Drink from 2023.
