When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 9/1/2021
Spicy oak and bright acidity complement each other in this well-made white, which shows strong tones of crisp citrus and green apple. It builds body on the midpalate, with integrated woody notes and lasting richness.
WS9090 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 10/21
Ginger, lemon and lemon balm scents sustain this wine’s fruit in the presence of rich oak, that fruit developing papaya-like flavors with air. An update on a classic style of Napa Valley chardonnay, broad and balanced.

JD9696 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 7/22/2021
Another Russian River release, the 2019 Chardonnay Four Hearts Vineyard brings plenty of ripe tropical fruit as well as medium to full body, a supple, layered mouthfeel, nicely integrated acidity, and building spice, toast, and green almond nuances. It’s another thrilling, brilliant Chardonnay from this estate. Drink bottles over the coming 5–7 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 9/1/2021
Lushly tropical with a richness of crème brûlée, this wine is made from several sites in the Laguna Ridge neighborhood of the appellation. Generous oak supports the layering opulence and spiciness, offering a voluptuous expression of the grape.
RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jan 2021
The 2019 Chardonnay Four Hearts Vineyard was 100% barrel fermented in French oak barrels, 31% new, and aged for 9.5 months. It strides confidently out of the glass with bold, ripe pear and peach notes, plus wafts of pineapple, wet clay, honey toast and fennel seed and a touch of nutmeg. Medium-bodied, the palate is refreshing with a slight phenolic grip to the texture and a long, steely finish. 1,485 cases were made.
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
The 2019 Chardonnay Four Hearts is another terrific wine in this range. Creamy and layered in the glass, the 2019 is exquisite. Old vines confer a good deal of character and nuance. White flowers, lemon confit, pineapple and pastry build into the creamy, inviting close.
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 31, 2021
Well-structured, with rich acidity to the fresh-cut apple and Asian pear flavors that show savory richness. Sage cream accents fill the contoured finish. Drink now through 2026. 1,485 cases made.

JD9393 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 8/2/2022
The 2019 Chardonnay Estate Vineyard is ripe with golden pineapple, lemon curd, and vanilla. The palate is perfectly aligned with the nose and full of juicy peach fruit, orange flower, and almond. It has a spine of fresh acidity, and its sun-ripened fruit makes it a classic and elegant wine for drinking over the next 10 years. (Audrey Frick)
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
The 2019 Chardonnay (Sonoma Coast) is a stellar appellation-level wine. Lemon confit, orchard fruit and yellow flowers are beautifully lifted in finely cut, nuanced Chardonnay that massively overachieves. Don’t miss it. (Antonio Galloni)
