Talley Vineyards Estate Bottled Chardonnay 2019 / 750 ml.

Item#: 28599

I loved the nose on the 2019 Chardonnay Estate, and this white would be a great introduction for readers looking to understand the style (and quality) of this terrific estate. Lots of clean stone fruits, classy oak, and some salty mineral all define the bouquet, and it’s medium-bodied, textured, and beautifully balanced. It should have 4–5 years or more of longevity. When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The 2019 Chardonnay Calesa Vineyard takes some time to emerge from its shell, offering mineral-laced white peach, jasmine and salted almonds. The medium-bodied palate is satiny and expansive, with a sense of energy derived from its dichotomy of honeyed fruits, shimmery, rocky tones and bright acidity, and it finishes with extraordinary length. It’s approachable now but will continue to improve in bottle over the next 5+ years and hold for several more. 1,500 cases produced. (Erin Brooks)

Richly spiced white fruit flavors feature biscuit notes midpalate, with hints of anise, followed by a plush, open-textured finish that shows light buttery accents. Drink now through 2023. 1,500 cases made. (Kim Marcus)

The 2019 Chardonnay (Sonoma Coast) is creamy, ample and seductive. Apricot, lemon confit, mint and white flowers all grace an understated, classy Sonoma Coast Chardonnay that will drink well right out of the gate. The 2019 is a blend mostly from the estate, plus a touch of fruit from Searby. (Antonio Galloni)
