JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, June 21, 2023
Pure stone fruit with green apples, nectarines and chalk on the nose, following through to a dry and crisp palate. A little light but quite drinkable with a saline undertone in the finish. Screw cap. (Zekun Shuai)
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Feb 28, 2023
Aromas of gooseberry, finger lime and ginger lead off in this refined but refreshing white, with saline-laced grapefruit and Meyer lemon at the core, followed by a clean finish. Drink now. 9,000 cases imported. (Aaron Romano)

A richer expression of cabernet franc, showing black fruit, tea leaves, dark olives and graphite. Medium to full body with very firm, fine-grained tannins. A hint of wet-stone character, too. Well made. Drink or hold.

Garzon Tannat Reserva 2020 / 750 ml.

WS9393 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 06/22
This is the fourth vintage in a row that Garzón’s Reserva Tannat has earned an exceptional score, this 2020 release the most compelling yet. It sets the bar for the coastal vineyards of Uruguay with its dark-skinned beauty, its fresh purple-plum and lively red-berry flavors over the pencil-shaving notes of the tannins. If, like Alejandro Bulgheroni, you had a billion dollars, would you choose to plant 1,200 parcels of vines in balasto—outcroppings of granite thought to be the earth’s oldest—weathered into soils where tannat finds a remarkable home? Or hire Alberto Antonini and Germán Bruzzone to build a winery with tulip-shaped cement vats where the tannat could ferment on its own yeasts before moving to untoasted botti for aging? What Bulgheroni and his team have achieved is nothing short of brilliant, a floral essence of this Atlantic grape, with a thin, high wall of tannins to surround all the bright fruit. It’s not often that you find such a satisfying wine for $20.

Dark cherries, fresh blackberries, dried meat, minerals and some savory spices. This is a medium-to full-bodied, tight and chewy red with nice austerity to remind you that this is a tannat. Sinewy, very tight and robust, but not drying in the finish. Drink after 2023.
WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2021
A bright ruby color and unencumbered aromas of cherry, red plum and light oak are inviting and easy to process. This is Uruguayan Tannat in its cleanest, most modern form. The palate feels juicy and medium in body. Light spice notes accent popping plum and raspberry flavors, while the finish is easygoing. (Michael Schachner)
